Senior Exhibition

The senior exhibition marked the culmination of years of dedicated study and creative exploration. For the exhibition, I created a display discussing the year long project of a chosen social issue. To accompany the project and exhibition, I was tasked with curating a capstone book with a diverse collection of my best work from the 2018–2019 academic school year.

OBJECTIVE

OBJECTIVE

As seniors in the VCD (visual communication design) program, we were given the option of choosing a social issue topic of our liking. Through research and exploration, the topic I examined was "Separation of Families", specifically through America and American politics. Used as an informational tool, topics and events discussed in the exhibition were meant to inspire those that want to make a difference in society.

The clean and bold visuals aid in having direct information to spark an emotion in the viewer. To reinforce an emotional drive, I encourage those wanting to take action and to please remember to vote for this upcoming 2020 election.

To reinforce an emotional drive, I encourage those wanting to take action and to please remember to vote for this upcoming 2020 election. To end any injustices that might occur now and in the future, the only solution is to voice our opinions and speak up for those that do not have a voice. By casting our votes during elections, only then can we cause changes in our government and society.

EXHIBITION INFO + BRIEF

"In the summer of 2018, President Trump implemented a "zero-tolerance" policy to reinforce his immigration views and beliefs. In attempts in crossing the U.S.-Mexico border, families were separated; Parents sent to courts and jails, while children were taken by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and housed in detention centers. Many were shocked in seeing photos and videos surfaced of the conditions in which these immigrant children were housed in. While there was outrage, events separating young children from their loved ones is nothing new. In fact, events of separation in America have been apparent in events such as slavery, Native-American boarding schools, and Japanese internment camps."

CAPSTONE BOOK

SEPARATION: AN AMERICAN CYCLE is a 150+ page capstone book explaining in detail: social issue topic, research, design exploration, campaign, and exhibition design.

Along with this, work done through the 2018-2019 Visual Communication VI academic year is displayed in the book.

Hand printed, front and back on newsprint, 200 newspaper copies were displayed with the exhibit. Meant for viewers to take home, the front page displays the exhibit once again with added resources. The inside contains a poster-sized graphic meant for viewers to hang and display in their homes. The back contains another graphic with information as to why voting is important.
